Cadence Beavers, a teen, was outside performing a dance for a TikTok video when she unintentionally saved her sister’s puppy’s life.
She sensed a splash in the water behind her while she danced. She swiftly turned around to see MJ, the dog, sliding to the pool’s bottom, unable to get above the water to breathe on her own.
Beavers take off her shoes and leaps into the pool to save her without hesitation. She snatches the dog by the collar, lifts her out of the water, and walks her to safety.
“I didn’t realize all dogs couldn’t swim,” Beavers told In The Know, “so I heard the splash and looked around, and then it hit me that [MJ] was simply sinking to the bottom like a rock.” “I had completely forgotten that I was even producing a TikTok!” It was instinctive for me to take off my shoes, check for my phone, and then rush in.”
The Beavers were worried that MJ might choke on the water, but she was fine.
The entire rescue was captured on film, which Beavers later shared on TikTok. Thousands of TikTok fans commended Beaver for saving MJ’s life, but some chastised him for stopping to remove her shoes.
Beavers responded to the criticism with a follow-up video. “Just because I took off my shoes and looked in my pocket to see if my phone was in there doesn’t mean I value those things more than my animal.”
