Roman, a San Antonio fireman, has yet to come to grips with the loss of his dog Chip.
He only had three years with the dog he previously rescued and brought into his household.
Roman was devastated by the loss, not least because he couldn’t be with his pet in his final moments because he was summoned to the service on that day.
Roman found a meaningful way to remember Chip’s memory some time after his passing.
Every year, on the anniversary of his beloved pet’s death, the guy adopts a dog from a local shelter called San Antonio Pets Alive who is in need of love, care, and occasionally medical assistance.
Throughout the year, Roman looks after a pet, preparing it for life in a human environment.
This is not an easy task, according to the firefighter, but it is well worth it.
Roman enjoys seeing how his wards, who frequently arrive in a dreadful state, recuperate, open up, and restore faith in others.
Roman’s assistance was especially valuable during the outbreak of new coronavirus infection in the United States when many shelters were forced to cut personnel and even cease operations owing to the economic downturn.
Pearl, a five-month-old golden retriever, came to Roman for foster care this year.
The firefighter’s dog did not stay with him for long. The animal was able to find permanent owners in just three days.
Even for such a brief period of assistance, the shelter is grateful to the man.
More and more homeless animals are finding new homes and loving owners because of the efforts of Roman and other volunteers.
