McKenzie, a four-year-old Pit Bull, is one of the many rescue dogs that have had their lives saved when they were rescued from the shelter. McKenzie’s owner described her as a happy-go-lucky, lively dog who enjoys being petted. To that list of incredible attributes, the moniker of “hero” can now be added.
Sadie Peterson claims the dog was out for her nighttime walk with the family’s 13-year-old child in the Lake Waukomis area of Missouri when a man appeared out of nowhere and approached the child. He was talking incoherently and hiding in the backyard’s forested area.
“I heard McKenzie snap and bark as I’ve never heard her do before,” Peterson said. “Because she is Maggie’s dog, she certainly realized her person was in danger.”
Even more incredible, McKenzie stood between the guy and the girl, while Peterson assisted the girl inside so she could dial 911. Despite the fact that the rescue Pit Bull was never taught to be a security dog, she trusted her instincts that night, and it paid off.
Thankfully, the perpetrator was apprehended a few blocks away and arrested, but not charged in this case. The man was allegedly under the influence of narcotics.
McKenzie received more scritches behind the ear and extra time on the couch with them, according to Peterson. You’ve done a fantastic job, beautiful pooch!
