A German Shepherd and an orphaned baby elephant create an incredible relationship… Check out this video!

Life in the wild for an orphaned animal is complicated, and the chances of survival are exceedingly slim. Ellie, a newborn elephant, had lost his mother, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, he became unwell and was eventually abandoned by the herd. Karen Trendler and the team at the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa were able to save the small one.

Ellie began a new life there. Surrounded by love and attention, the orphaned elephant finds the solace he seeks in a dog rather than his rescuers, as we might expect. It appears that animals, regardless of species, have the ability to transcend any barrier when it comes to caring for one another.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: animals can teach us a lot about compassion and assisting others who are in need. Animals can create odd friendships with one another when they are not obliged to survive in the wild…

Elephants are gregarious animals who are known for their friendliness. And Ellie was no exception! The rescued elephant built a special bond with Duma, a German Shepard, despite the fact that the Thula Thula refuge is home to a variety of exotic species such as buffalo, leopards, giraffes, and rhinos.

Here’s where you can learn more about their touching story:
