Gavel, a German Shepherd dog from Queensland, Australia, is a complete knucklehead—a knucklehead who we adore! He was in a rigorous training program, but instead of sniffing out bombs and tracking down bad men, he preferred to lie on his back and get belly massages.
Gavel’s trainers were adamant about keeping him in the program, but even after four uniforms, he wasn’t cut out for the job… He was “fired” after 16 weeks.
“Gavel may have missed out on being a Queensland police service dog,” Jersey wrote, “but it is quite evident that he possesses the qualities required to adequately fulfill duties as Queensland’s official vice-regal dog.”
His formal responsibilities include greeting visitors and attending significant ceremonies. Gavel has his own contract, which he confirmed with his “paw print” on it.
While Gavel isn’t cut out for police work, he’s doing a fantastic job in his new job. But, like the rest of us, he has his down days… LOL!
Gavel is at the pinnacle of his powers. A former flunky is making new friends and making a positive impact wherever he goes!
