Sarah Moore and Lindsey Golden of Colorado were involved in an accident in mid-November.
According to Fox 5 News, their animals, dachshund Winston and 15-year-old Chiweenie Mijo rushed out into the backyard for a walk when they were abruptly attacked by a mountain lion.
The predator snatched up an elderly dog, evidently thinking it would be easy prey. But she didn’t know who she’d have to deal with just yet.
Short-legged Winston sprang at the mountain lion with a resounding yelp, attempting to repel his pal.
He charged at the cat until she tossed the Chiweenie and bolted.
“Mijo’s best pal is Winston. And I’m not surprised that Winston came to his aid when he yelled,” Sarah said of the incident.
A big and gentle heartbeats in the chest of a little dachshund, according to the owner. This is a real buddy who is always willing to assist others who are in need.
The dogs were brought to a veterinary clinic after the attack. Winston was unharmed, but Mijo was severely hurt.
His right eye could not be saved, and it had to be removed. In addition, the dog suffered a stroke in the middle of the night.
Doctors believe the mountain lion’s sharp teeth may have damaged the dog’s nerve, necessitating a lengthy and costly treatment.
Sarah and Lindsey were unprepared for the cost and turned to the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform for assistance.
They’ve managed to raise nearly $13,000 thus far. They intend to use all of the monies to treat and rehabilitate the animal.
