We can all agree that dogs are wonderful creatures who are loyal, cuddly, and adorable, and what’s not to love about them? A video of a large Alaskan Malamute grooming has gone viral, and internet users are loving it! Take a look for yourself: What is an Alaskan Malamute, exactly?

These dogs have a long history dating back thousands of years. 5000 years ago, the original colonists in North America kept these puppies for labor and as companions. They’re related to popular breeds like Siberian Huskies, Samoyeds, and even Labrador retrievers.

Keeping one of your own takes a lot of effort. Because they are sled dogs, they require daily exercise. They don’t bark all that often, but when they do, they may be pretty obnoxious. They’ve been used on Arctic expeditions before, so they’re acclimated to being cold.

Early North American immigrants relied on them for hunting, chasing, hauling gear, towing sleds, and locating bears.

During World War I and World War II, they were used to provide supplies to the French troops and detect explosives from inaccessible mountain positions.
