Shortcake is a cute puppy who came dangerously close to dying at the hands of a monster. The lovely puppy was discovered covered in blood beneath a shed in Jackson, Mississippi. The dog’s ability to survive is a monument to her willpower.
Shortcake was discovered with bullet wounds to both of her front feet and her chest by the staff at Coco’s House Sanctuary and Rescue. She was underweight and evidently mistreated before she was shot, in addition to her injuries.
Shortcake’s front feet had to be amputated after numerous surgeries to save her life. Despite surgeons’ best efforts, the bone damage and lack of blood flow to each foot were too severe to save.
“We are focusing on using her legs to move instead of army crawling like she loves to do,” Coco’s House wrote on Facebook. Every day brings her closer to her new legs!
Shortcake’s physical therapy team is working with her to improve strength since she is food motivated. Laser therapy, bandage changes, and physiotherapy are all being provided to her.
As she starts her road to a new life, she will be fitted with prosthetics.
