After more than 2 years apart, a young lady is finally reunited with her pet dog in this heartwarming moment. Mariah Cummings never gave up hope, despite the fact that her lovely pet dog had been stolen from the house and the prospects of ever seeing him again were small. Her story, thankfully, has a good conclusion!
Mariah from Saginaw, Michigan, has always adored puppies, but she is well aware that sharing her home with one entails a great deal of responsibility and commitment. But in 2014, her desire came true when she got Hannibal, a cute pit bulldog. It was love at first sight for both of them, as she had predicted. They’ve been a great, inseparable couple since the day they met. But, regrettably, the unimaginable happened a few years later. The puppy, who was three years old at the time, vanished.
“My first words were, ‘I don’t hear Hannibal…then I start crying!”
The young woman was returning home from a brief trip when she noticed her door was open just as she was parking her car, and she was certain she hadn’t left it that way. However, as she drew closer, she noticed that her house had been broken into. Mariah’s first thought was to look for her dog, but he was gone, just as she had dreaded!
The sad woman began looking for her dog everywhere from that point on, but her efforts were in vain. Hannibal was nowhere to be seen! Despite this, Mariah continued to hunt for the dog for the next two years, but without success. She went to Tennessee after that, and her chances of seeing her dog again were dwindling by the day.
“I was visiting shelters till two years later when I relocated to Tennessee,” the woman told Daily Paws. “I visited practically all of Michigan’s animal shelters.”
But then something extraordinary happened two and a half years after Hannibal was kidnapped. Mariah received a photo of a dog that looked exactly like Hannibal that was discovered in the city of Saginaw by a friend. Mariah was certain that the puppy in the photo was hers the instant she saw it. She was in her car traveling there the next second. She was concerned, though, that her dog would no longer remember her after so many years. But it wasn’t like that at all!
“As soon as they sent me that photo, I knew it was him.’ ‘I’m leaving now,’ Mariah said. “That night, I started driving!”
The moment the two reunited was captured on camera, and it is really moving. There wasn’t a single person in the room who didn’t cry. “The tears were just flowing down my cheeks… “It was as though my body was calling out for me,” she added. In the now-viral TikTok film, Mariah recorded her journey to reunite with Hannibal.
