After risking his life to preserve a shelter full of rescued cats and dogs, a homeless guy is being recognized as a true hero.

If it hadn’t been for the bravery of Keith Waker, 53, who took over the W-Underdogs shelter in Atlanta, it might not have ended well.

“I wasn’t going to lie, I was nervous as hell,” Walker said CNN. “With all that smoke, I was terrified to go in there.” God, on the other hand, placed me there to save those animals.”

“You can love anyone in the world if you love a dog.” “I knew I had to help all those other dogs since my dog is my best friend and I wouldn’t be here without him.”

He was able to save all of the animals at the shelter, which included ten cats and six dogs.

Gracie Hamilton, the owner of W-Underdogs, referred to Keith as her guardian angel:

“Even the firefighters were apprehensive about dealing with the dogs. They phoned animal control, but Keith was already inside, removing the cats and dogs until everyone was secure.”

Keith has been homeless since he was 13, according to Victoria Stilwell, a member of W-Underdogs’ advisory board.

“He is homeless and endures many obstacles, but he loves his dog,” Stilwell added.

Keith was already a familiar figure at the shelter since he was allowed to keep his dog, Bravo, there every night.

When he saw the fire, he was on his way to pick up Bravo and acted fast.

“Bravo is a huge male pitbull that is full of activity and has a nice demeanor. He is a powerful individual who is also a caring individual. “He is adored,” Stilwell stated.

The shelter wasn’t fully destroyed, but it was rendered uninhabitable by the fire.

W-Underdogs were barely a week away from relocating to their new facility as if it were fate.
