Jake, a border collie, is putting his traumatic past behind him as he starts his new life with one of his rescuers.
Last November, Charlotte and her spouse were hiking across the Scottish Highlands when they noticed a dog howling and moaning. They discovered a badly injured border collie hidden behind a mound of boulders when they got close enough.
They sought help from the Scottish SPCA right away.
One of the Scottish SPCA’s responding inspectors, Yvonne Sloss, said she still gets memories of the tragic moment she discovered Jake.
“Astonishment, sadness, and disbelief were all I felt when I saw Jake.” His cranium was swollen, and he was in terrible shape.”
According to rescuers, the poor dog was not expected to make it through the night. When he arrived at Glasgow Animal Clinic, he was unconscious and had extensive injuries.
But he triumphed over the odds and lived to tell the tale.
After a thorough examination, Jake was found to have skull fractures, a dislocated jaw, infection, and one eye that needed to be removed.
After the gorgeous youngster had undergone all of the needed operations, another inspector engaged in the case, Mark Greener, took him in.
On his first day on the job, Greener met Jake, and it was “a day I’ll never forget,” he recalled. Jake was a hit with him right away, and he offered to foster him for the holidays. Greener began to have faith in the healing puppy, and the two were inextricably linked.
Greener adopted Jake because he couldn’t imagine life without him.
He describes his new friend as “kind, lively, and a superb sook (charmer).” All of the people that helped save Jake’s life are thanked by Jake and his new father. If Jake could speak, he would say, “Because of you, I’m here, I’m safe, and I’m glad.”
The culprits of the “awful maltreatment” should be identified and prosecuted, according to supporters of the animal welfare organization. “This is revolting!” exclaimed one user. What kind of individual would do something like that? There’s got to be a way to figure out who’s to blame!”
Jake now spends his days walking and swimming, and he has finally gotten the happy ending he so richly deserves.
