Most moms adore their children and would go to great lengths to protect them. A mother’s love knows no bounds, as one dog demonstrated.
When a stray Greyhound with a broken leg was discovered limping around, rescuers quickly grasped what she was fighting for: she was a mother.
The mother dog, now known as Vera, was in bad shape. She was malnourished and terribly thin, in addition to her injured limb.
Vera was breastfeeding when veterinarian Ellen Sobry met her after her friend Lianne found her foraging for food outside a market in Vera, Spain. Vera had a litter of puppies someplace, she knew right away.
They took care of Vera’s damaged leg first, then returned to the location where Vera was discovered in the hopes that she would guide them to her babies.
Vera began walking at that point, and they followed closely after her. Feet became yards, and yards became miles. Vera led them to a broken-down automobile near an abandoned house over two miles later.
They saw them as they glanced inside the car: Vera’s litter of 10 lovely puppies! Sobry returned Vera and her kids to her vet clinic, where the tiny family would heal together before being adopted once they were fully recovered.
While Sobry and Lianne performed an incredible job rescuing Vera, the puppies would not have survived if it hadn’t been for Vera’s unwavering love and devotion!
