Pets can enter our lives in the most unpredictable ways and at the most inconvenient moments. That was the case for one couple who came across a puppy while on vacation, and the dog was anxious to adopt them.
Martina Russo and her boyfriend Fil from Milan, Italy, were traveling through the Spanish countryside when they observed a local following them, as per SWNS.
“We assumed it was simply a game,” Martina explained to SWNS, “but soon recognized something wasn’t right because she was running fast and wouldn’t stop.”
They pulled over to offer the dog some water after noticing she was in desperate need, and the puppy quickly became attached.
“We… carried her to the nearest village to see if anyone had seen her previously, but no one had,” they posted on Instagram. “We’re in the middle of nothing, with no houses or other signs of human existence for miles.”
“We put her back where we discovered her on the way back, hoping she’d remember to walk back, but she followed us till we got to the van.”
The dog continued to follow them in their car, and the couple understood the dog had been abandoned in the countryside.
“The next day, we took her to the doctor, and it turned out she wasn’t chipped, hadn’t been spayed, was female, maybe a year old, and her fur was quite overgrown and full of gunk around her eyes,” Martina told SWNS.
They continued their hunt for the puppy’s owner, but nobody really came forward after looking around the area and posting on social media.
After a few weeks, they realized the puppy was without a family — and chose to adopt him!
Martina and Fil’s puppy, Moxie, has become a much-loved member of their family.
“She’s really nice and amusing, quite playful, and she adores our cats – well, she adores anything and everyone!” Martina expressed her thoughts. “We enjoy bringing her on outings, and she never fails to make us laugh.”
