The Arizona Humane Society received a lame white dog in bad shape.
The dog, who was only a few weeks old at the time, was rapidly deteriorating in front of our eyes and was being prepped for euthanasia.
Ellie Smith, the owner of the Sky Sanctuary Rescue, stepped in to save the day.
She intended to take the dog in an attempt to save her life.
Penelope, as Ellie dubbed her new ward, was inspected by a veterinarian at the shelter.
The dog’s blood was found to be virtually completely devoid of platelets.
The hematological analyzer refused to offer a result since the values were so terrible.
The puppy’s skin was covered with ticks and his mucous membranes were “ghost white.”
The doctor was unsure of his chances of success, but he determined to save the dog in any way he could.
Only a healthy blood transfusion could save her, and it had to be located soon.
Fortunately, Dr. Jen Gilson had two dogs in mind: Murphy and Riggs, her own.
Only one blood type was found based on the blood type – Murphy.
Penelope was brought back to life with just a few injections.
The puppy’s mucous membranes and nose turned pink, and life appeared in the glazed eyes.
It was astonishing – especially because Murphy, as if realizing the gravity of Penelope’s participation in the treatment, did not let her alone and kept a tight eye on her.
And the dog stared directly into the eyes of her savior at the time, as though thanking her for her assistance.
Penelope made it out alive. That wasn’t the only good news, either.
When the puppy was returned to her mom, she was accepted and permitted to milk.
To fall into the hands of the appropriate person only one step before death is an incredible fate for a dog!
