For months, the ailing and completely hairless dog wandered the streets of Houston begging for help.
She met a woman in the parking lot one evening and decided to give it a shot.
When the stranger saw the mongrel, he fed her and put a leash around her neck.
The mongrel made a wise decision.
The woman brought her home and began looking for a new place for her right away.
She shared a photo of Gardenia (the dog’s name) on Facebook, and it quickly grabbed the attention of Caitie Evers, a well-known animal rescuer.
Even though the woman had seen cases of baldness in stray dogs before, she was terrified by Gardenia’s state of neglect.
Caitie took her new ward home and gave her some time to relax.
Dogs who have been living on the street for a long time, according to her, require a good night’s sleep first.
Gardenia was rushed to the veterinarian when she awoke, and the veterinarian diagnosed her with a severe case of demodicosis, a non-contagious skin illness caused by a parasite called acne gland.
“The dog had sores and crusts all over him,” Caitie recalls. “A secondary infection has already started in certain areas. Everything appeared to be in horrible shape.”
Gardenia was constantly itchy, but she persevered through treatment.
Caitie recalls that she appeared dejected and unhappy as if she despised life and had given up long ago.
The dog ate well but refused to play or interact in any manner with the humans.
Antibiotics and medicinal baths, on the other hand, were effective. Gardenia’s skin began to clear, and new hair started to emerge.
The dog’s pleasant mood began to recover after a few weeks of treatment.
She had a different appearance and mannerisms. Gardenia, according to her new owner, has evolved into a happy, playful animal who sprinted around the house and garden with another pet, a German shepherd.
Caitie had grown connected to the ward and was not ready to leave her permanently, so she began looking for a new, permanent home for her.
Bri Tripaldi, a friend of hers, quickly reacted to the girl’s proposition.
She and her fiancé Jayden had been following the dog’s journey on social media since the beginning, and she knew right away that Gardenia would be a great addition to their family.
From the initial meeting, it was evident that the dog and the owners were meant to be together. Gardenia had captured Bri and Jayden’s hearts and they didn’t want to let go.
The dog has a bright future ahead of her, with people who are willing to go to any length to ensure her pleasure.
Today, nobody really recognizes the unlucky creature with the extinct eyes.
