DASH (Dream Of A Safe Haven) is among Greece’s biggest dog shelters.
Volunteers from all over the world join forces to save dogs who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, maimed, or sick, among other dreadful situations.
“To say life hasn’t been kind to them is an understatement, and it makes you question mankind,” Carina, a DASH volunteer, said. “They’ve been shot, dragged behind a car, used in fights, and subjected to other atrocities.” Even with me, a new person, I would expect them to be nervous, bashful, and pushy. “And who could blame them?” says the narrator.
“However, the inverse was true,” she continued. “Wagging tails, excited barks, and the most gorgeous happy dog smiles greeted me.”
Katerina Pesonis, a dog lover, actually dreamed of creating a safe refuge for dogs, and DASH was born.
She is completely dedicated to assisting these creatures, and she even lives in a trailer at the shelter, allowing her to care for hundreds of dogs on a daily basis.
Despite their traumatic pasts, all of the dogs at DASH live in groups and are quite happy and gregarious. They get the best care at the shelter and repay the favor by giving slobbery kisses to the workers.
“These dogs, as well as the beautiful individuals that give up everything to give these dogs at least something, are truly incredible.” Carina remarked, “Who struggles to give them a second chance.”
“Damn it, they’ve earned it.” They are deserving of infinite affection, walks, and gentleness. I am awestruck. After everything those dogs have been through, all they want is some attention, and everyone who works at the shelter wants to make that dream a reality.”
