When Stella the homeless dog was discovered whimpering and begging for food on the rugged streets of Texas, she was significantly pregnant.
The lonesome canine was seeking cover under cars and was plainly distressed by the uncertainty surrounding the fate of her newborn puppies. When the North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL) employees discovered Stella, they brought her in right away.
Stella was taken to a veterinarian for a necessary medical assessment by the NFAWL team. The vet estimated that the litter would arrive within the next two weeks based on the size of the puppies on the X-ray. As a result, the personnel at the shelter made Stella feel at ease in a calm and peaceful room. They had no idea she was going to be in labor the next morning!
Stella’s stress-free labor turned found to be induced by the shelter’s feeling of safety and security. The caregivers kept a close eye on her as she gave birth to eight puppies in a matter of hours. This was the shelter’s first litter in over 20 years, and it was a joyous occasion for everyone!
The shelter has appealed to the public for financial assistance in order to save the frail mama and her litter. Stella will require more feeding in order to properly rear her puppies, and the cost of vaccination and spaying/neutering the litter will be considered as well.
