Aurora, a three-year-old girl, was reported missing to the police by her family.
Her relatives claim that the girl left the house alone and vanished.
The authorities began exploring the wild areas and hills surrounding the Southern Downs in Queensland but were unable to locate the girl.
More than a hundred volunteers from the State Emergency Service and city residents joined the effort on Saturday morning.
Aurora, who had spent almost 15 hours on the top of a hill densely overgrown with shrubs, was only discovered at 8:00 p.m.
Aurora’s grandma, Leisa Bennett, initially heard the girl’s feeble voice.
She dashed to the crest of the hill, where she encountered a dog who directed her to the girl.
Max, a 17-year-old deaf and nearly blind dog, was the culprit.
The dog had spent the entire night next to Aurora, warming her with his body while waiting for aid to arrive.
Despite the cool and humid temperature, the girl was unharmed, with the exception of dehydration and a few scratches.
Aurora reeked like a dog since she had spent the night cuddling Max.
According to the police report, the missing girl was discovered two kilometers from her home on her family’s private property.
Despite the close proximity, the search for Aurora was challenging. The house is situated in a mountainous and densely forested area.
Volunteers had to go slowly and carefully to avoid steep slopes covered with moss and plants.
According to the authorities, the girl was extremely fortunate to have escaped injury and survived.
Aurora’s family is thankful to Max for not abandoning her and for assisting in her rescue.
He was given the title of “honorary police dog” for his bravery.
