This event happened in the Argentine city of Rivadavia in 2015.
An elderly couple came upon a pregnant homeless dog on the street.
She was famished and very unwell.
The couple was inspired by the animal’s situation and decided to watch after her, as well as her newborn puppies when it came time for her to give birth.
When the puppies had grown old enough to be weaned from their mother, they were given a new home by kind people.
Despite their growing attachment to Negrita, the dog’s name, the couple was unable to take her to them since they feared they would be unable to care for her due to their age.
They then found her a new owner, an old acquaintance from Jáchal, a nearby city, and personally handed the ward to him.
Everything seemed to be well until Negrita’s new owner called two weeks later to inform us the dog had gotten loose.
He sought everywhere for her, but her trail seemed to have vanished.
Negrita was nowhere to be seen after days and weeks had gone. When Negrita arrived at the home of the elderly couple who had helped her in her time of need, the owner had given up hope of finding a pet. It turns out she had been looking for them the whole time!
The dog traveled 161 kilometers from Jáchal to Rivadavia. As a result of the long journey, Negrita had lost a lot of weight and was covered in filth and sores. When the dog returned home, he drank a pail of water before resting for the next 24 hours. When the couple got a call from a friend notifying them that Negrita had returned, they were taken aback.
The man wanted to pick her up, but the couple chose not to give up the dog this time — how could they insult such devotion?
