The lives of stray animals are far from easy. Not only do these vulnerable creatures struggle to survive on their own, but they are frequently scared of humans who treat them badly.
Unfortunately, finding a safe place to hide is yet another challenge for many of them. Two dogs became lost in a sewer, most likely in an attempt to get away from the street life. The animals were well aware that they were in danger and that the only way for them to survive was for someone to rescue them.
They began barking and crying in the hopes that someone caring would hear their calls for assistance. Fortunately, this is exactly what occurred.
Citlaly Rodriguez and Isaac Barajas, two teens, were the ones who discovered the dogs. They knew something needed to be done as soon as possible, so they informed Hope for Paws of their discovery. And it turned out to be the proper thing to do, as this charity has already aided thousands of animals in need.
Hope for Paws’ Edgar and Loreta arrived at the incident quickly and were determined to get the pets out. They approached slowly and carefully so as not to frighten the already terrified victims any further.
However, the dogs recognized that these individuals were there to assist them and worked together.
The kids stayed at the scene to assist the rescues and only left once they were satisfied that the dogs were secure. “When Loreta and I arrived, we worked with these two amazing kids and executed this rescue mission together,” Edgar explained.
The canines were taken to the organization’s shelter and given medical attention as well as a clean bath. The staff gave them the names Winn and Dixie, and all they had to do now was find them a loving home.
Despite the fact that Winn and Dixie were most likely stray dogs, they were nonetheless scanned for microchips. The rescuers could only speculate whether they got stuck in the sewer on their own or were placed there because they didn’t have any. One thing was certain: Winn and Dixie were the best of friends.
Both Winn and Dixie were relocated to another local charity, Wags and Walks, once they had recovered from their ordeal. Thankfully, the team at this charity was able to locate them as permanent residents. What’s more, they weren’t adopted separately but rather as a unit by a family who adores them.
