Nothing makes you feel more nervous than a group of vultures circling the air. Their presence, which is usually a sign of impending death, is never a positive sign. They fly in that precise beat, according to Ilovemydogsomuch, ready to swoop down and peck at a cadaver below.
That’s why a photo of a Pit Bulldog named Lilo in her small dog house surrounded by vultures was both strange and terrifying!
The picture conveyed a message. The vultures were well aware that this puppy was running out of time. She was left alone and tethered to a nearby tree.
She was left with nothing but her small dog and a glimmer of hope. It was only a matter of time before she became the vultures’ next prey.
The photographer who got the snap, Rob Brown of the Greensboro News & Record, undoubtedly saved Lilo’s life. Despite this fantastic photo, Lilo’s owners left her there. They were unconcerned about the vultures’ implications or motivations.
Others, thankfully, were concerned. Lilo was taken into custody by animal control when they arrived at the house. When her owners didn’t answer the door, they left a letter informing them of Lilo’s whereabouts. As if they gave a damn.
From afar, it was evident that Lilo was in terrible difficulty. As a result of lying on the ground with nothing to console her, she was bare-knuckled and suffering from pressure sores. Lilo was taken into custody by the Merit Pit Bull Foundation after it became evident that she would not be returned to her original owners.
She was placed in a foster family with Keana Lynch and her boyfriend, Travis Henley. Lilo’s new foster parents worked hard to quickly acclimate her to living in a home. She had never been inside before, and while it was first daunting, she gradually adjusted.
Lilo was also placed on a high-calorie diet. Getting constant meals was a new experience for the puppy. She also learned what it meant to be loved. Every dog should be able to enjoy this on a daily basis! The other dogs in her foster parents’ pack were ecstatic to have her join them.
Lilo’s foster parents quickly realized that she belonged with them indefinitely. They boldly declared themselves foster failures and adopted Lilo. They couldn’t bear the thought of letting her go. We can’t say we blame them.
The horrific video that went viral four years ago has been updated. Lilo is having an absolute blast. While we regret that she was put in that situation in the first place, we are pleased that it is now behind her.
