Angel, a Belgian Shepherd, had part of her snout amputated after being abused by Chinese meat dealers. When campaigners seized the truck bringing dogs for slaughter, she was saved from certain death.
Before being flown to England by the Rushton Dog Rescue, Angel underwent emergency surgery in Beijing. Hollie then adopted Angel, who fell in love with the dog right away. “It just so happened that [Rushton Dog Rescue] had rescued this breed that I’d always wanted, and I stumbled across her and thought it was fate – I had to re-home this dog,” Hollie explained.
The dog learned to live with her nose damage, but it still causes her problems because it bleeds frequently and makes it difficult for her to breathe.
“It [surgery] was a no-brainer as soon as we discovered she was breathing via that tiny hole.” Even if we can only make that hole a little bigger so she can breathe a bit easier, it’ll help her quality of life.”
Hollie contacted Fitzpatrick Referrals, a world-renowned veterinary specialist, to see what they might do for Angel.
One Instagram follower gave $2500 to fund a CT scan to determine the extent of the injury. Angel’s nose was completely covered in scar tissue, with only a 2mm hole allowing her to breathe. Hollie then decided to fund the pup’s repair surgery through a GoFundMe campaign.
In just four days, the campaign reached its goal! The procedure is scheduled for the following week for Angel.
“Without the fundraising and her support system, it would not have been an option — in total, it cost around £7,500, which we could never have afforded.” I only imagined it would be able to raise that amount of money because she has so many people who love and care for her [on social media].” As expressed by Hollie.
“This procedure, in my opinion, has changed her life forever.” I didn’t want to put her through any more stress or surgery — none of it was for cosmetic reasons; I liked how she looked before – it was all for her quality of life.” According to Hollie.
Angel’s life was truly changed thanks to her fur mom and everyone who donated to her surgery.
