After being discovered on the side of the road, an ill and malnourished puppy went from rags to riches. Jenny Desmond was traveling through a small Liberian community when she came upon the dead puppy.
She realized she wouldn’t live much longer and would most likely die in a day or two.
Desmond coordinated the pup’s rescue fast and expertly and returned her to the chimp refuge she and her husband maintain. They seek to safeguard Liberia’s surviving wild chimps in their native habitat by rescuing them from the exotic pet trade.
Desmond has rescued a variety of creatures, despite her specialization in chimps. Desmond has saved everything from chickens to grasshoppers, according to one of her sanctuary’s employees.
She was no exception when it came to the sad puppy she rescued. Desmond’s husband, Jim, is a veterinarian, so he started treating the puppy they named Snafu.
Snafu was forced to wear a cone to prevent her from picking at her wounds.
The rescued chimps made a point of cuddling her.
Snafu grew strong and healthy after several months of care, and Desmond arranged for Snafu to find a wonderful forever home in the United States. Watch the video to see where Snafu has ended up and how lovely she looks now that she is an adult.
