Our dogs are the one relationship that is certain to break our hearts.
Only other dog owners will understand what I’m talking about. We understand the heartbreak that comes with adopting a devoted canine companion. But it’s all worth it for the little moments we get to spend with them.
Ken Pendagraft, 80, said his 14-year-old dog gave him a reason to get out and exercise every day, as well as friendship and unconditional love.
Neighbors rushed to Ken’s rescue after he was discovered depressed with a sick puppy.
Ken lived in a mobile home park in Hemet, California, with his 16-year-old dog Zack. According to his neighbors, he was friendly, even if he kept to himself most of the time.
That is, until Ken’s dog became gravely ill and he couldn’t afford to rush him to the clinic. “Ken was still crying.”
Elaine Seamans, founder of the At-Choo Foundation, a rescue organization that helps dogs in need of medical care, comes to help!
Zack had glaucoma, terrible arthritis, and a 6/6 heart murmur, making surgery difficult. Elaine tried everything she could for him.
Zack, on the other hand, did not make it.
But, alas, his grief didn’t stop there; he was also suffering from a sense of loneliness.
Ken died of a heart attack not long after he discovered his long-lost love Zack. Anyone who loves their pet understands how [stressful] it is when they pass away.
What happened after that exemplifies how entwined we are with our animals and how reliant we are on them.
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies to everyone involved. Pets are family, and we might become ‘overwhelmed’ by ‘grief’ to the point when our hearts stop beating.
It’s a difficult time when you have to say goodbye to your cherished pet. They’ll be reunited in the hereafter!
