Stray Rescue of St. Louis found a dog with a broken foot. Of course, they planned to save lives, but they had no clue how many more they would save.
Shortly after recovering the dog, they discovered she had milk. They recognized this dog was a new mother with pups around at that point. Rescuers realized they had to find them as soon as possible.
They immediately proceeded to the mother dog’s den in the underbrush to see if her pups were present. Rescuers brushed away branches and slipped into the shrubbery until they reached a little den.
Within the den, a hole in the ground that served as a’safe haven,’ there were not just a few puppies, but THIRTEEN! Their mother did an amazing job of keeping children secure and comfortable by concealing them.
Rescuers deliberately put the puppies and their mom into a container one by one before bringing them to their rescue. They were able to provide the mother and puppies with all of the medical care they need on the spot.
All of the pups will be spayed and neutered before being adopted when they reach the appropriate age, and the mom will have surgery on her injured leg.
Meanwhile, Stray Rescue of St. Louis is looking for foster homes for puppies.
