After saving her ducky siblings from an alligator attack, Beauty, the black Labrador Retriever, is slowly recovering. Beauty has looked after Crest, Downy, and Dot since they were small ducklings, treating them with love and care.
When the geese wandered off and became entangled in a thornbush, she was once thought to be “lost.” Beauty stayed in their midst and lay next to the bush until her father and mother arrived to find them. As a result, when a greater and more terrifying threat arose, this brave dog was ready to defend her flock.
On the shores of Lake Powell in Panama City Beach, Florida, the gorgeous 8-year-old canine lives with her family and their pet geese. The day of the assault started out like any other, with Beauty closely following and keeping a watch on her feathery special pals. However, when Beauty’s mother heard noises that indicated something had gone horribly wrong, it quickly became horrifying.
“It was as if I went into panic mode.” I heard a bustle and assumed that every other dog had entered the yard. “It wasn’t a bark like Beauty’s,” Beauty’s mother, Misti, explained.
When Misti arrived at the beach, she saw that her geese had been blatantly ruffled, Beauty had been soaked, and an alligator had been lounging on the sand at the water’s edge. Misti quickly recognized that Beauty was not in good shape. When she was called, she couldn’t rise up and wasn’t moving. Misti dashed to Beauty, grabbed her up, and drove her to VetsPets Animal Hospital right away.
“The alligator was the first thing I noticed because it was right on the water’s edge. When I went down, there was blood all over the place. “There had been a fight,” Misti said.
Dr. Barr could tell Beauty used to be in bad shape after examining her. She’d suffered a number of significant injuries. Beauty’s back was covered in big smooth tissue incisions and deep gashes. She also suffered a broken leg, which would necessitate two surgeries.
Fortunately, this brave lady persevered through the lengthy and difficult procedures, and she is now expected to recover completely in six to eight weeks.
Beauty returned home from the clinic on September 29th, much to the relief of her loving family. That 16-day sanatorium felt like an eternity. Beauty will continue her recovery at home while she is still healing, and she will be in the capable hands of her caring mother.
Beauty is walking a lot better, according to Misti, but they’re continuing to keep a check on her wounds. While Beauty is expected to recover fully following her alligator experience, one of the geese did not return home and is suspected to have been devoured.
This isn’t the first time Misti has seen an alligator swimming in Lake Powell, she said. She also claimed to have seen one during the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. She doesn’t assume, though, that this is the same gator.
Beauty’s father has contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission since the attack. They came here to scare away the gator, but they haven’t been able to find it. They plan to return to look for it once more.
