All a stray on the streets could think about was getting a hearty supper and finding some shelter to keep him safe from the weather.
For one particular stray named “New Boy,” he appeared to be just like any other animal in distress. He was emaciated, famished, and in desperate need of a bath.
They had no idea how remarkable New Boy was when he was taken up by a local Los Angeles shelter. Although all dogs are unique, New Boy was unlike any other canine the shelter volunteers had encountered.
Volunteers instantly realized that this young boy was terrified. He was so afraid of people that he leaned against a wall, refusing to look away. He was also dehydrated, emaciated, mange-ridden, and parasite-infested. He deserved respect and affection. However, things were about to change dramatically.
As New Boy was being placed in a kennel and checked, an experienced shelter worker recognized something was off about this “dog.” Her suspicions were confirmed when the shelter worker called to have New Boy examined. New Boy was a wolf-dog crossbreed!
This understanding posed a significant difficulty. The shelter was unable to provide for him. Because it was illegal for them to retain New Boy, he would be euthanized if he did not find a new home. The workers at the shelter would not hear it.
They contacted every possible source and were eventually successful.
New Boy was offered a home at the W.O.L.F. Sanctuary in Colorado. New Boy was picked up by sanctuary workers without hesitation after an 18-hour travel. The wolf-dog received the medical attention he required once he returned to his new home.
The lovely boy required extensive medical attention. He was also anemic and has some foot problems. He’s doing well at the animal hospital where he’s recovering. He’ll join his new companions in the refuge once he’s medically cleared.
