Gus, the dog, was observed wandering around Houston in terrible shape. This poor tortured dog had shoelaces tied around his neck for a full year, causing his face to bloat up. His trachea had been wounded by the shoelace, which was embedded in his epidermis.
In addition, he was filthy and hungry. Gus had been shot at least 25 times with a pellet gun and still had several bullets buried in his body, according to X-rays.
This dog had been through hell and back, and it was past time for him to seek assistance. When Laura Jean saw Gus on the streets, she promptly grabbed some photos of the abandoned puppy and put them on Facebook, pleading for help.
Jean was hesitant to approach Gus because she was afraid he would walk into oncoming traffic. She was dissatisfied with all of the cars that could have assisted her but did not.
Thankfully, Houston K-911 Rescue responded swiftly to Jean’s call for assistance and searched the area for Gus. That’s when they discovered him hidden amid the abandoned buildings. As they came closer to him, they realized how severe his condition was.
They rushed him to the vet right once for medical attention, and subsequently to a soft-tissue expert for surgical removal of the scarred tissue. His enlarged skull gradually shrank to normal size after surgery.
He then went to live with Marina Harrison, his new foster mother, who works at the vet hospital where Gus had his surgery. Gus is receiving excellent care from her, and he will continue to receive laser treatments while he recovers.
Laura Jean even paid Gus a visit and recorded a video of him, demonstrating how sweet and loving he is. He will be available for adoption once he has fully recovered.
