When Tony, the tiny grey, curly-haired dog, went outside to play in his yard, we’re sure he didn’t expect to become a surrogate mom for a beautiful newborn koala.
Tony is a gentle dog, and when he saw the baby koala, he let him crawl up onto his back. Thankfully, his owner was present to videotape the unexpected but valuable case.
On this particular day, Tony was the koala’s best mate. Although pet dogs have been known to offer love and protect other animals, Tony was the koala’s best friend on this specific day. His owner had no idea where the mother koala was, but imagined that she was still high in the woods.
Tony stayed with the joey for a few minutes before shaking it off and giving it a sniff. The joey immediately desired to return to the safety and security of Tony’s back, and the two cuties circled each other, with an experienced joey striving to retake Tony’s back. Henry, Tony’s owner, claimed:
“I followed him on his run and witnessed the baby smother him. It lasted almost two minutes before he dropped off and crawled up a tree.”
The adorable new friends could not be much cuter, and they are winning hearts all around the world. In the video synopsis, Henry wrote:
“My dog, Tony, is really sweet and acceptable. I’m convinced he won’t harm the baby Koala, and that the baby will leap off his back on its own.”
Nobody knows why the little koala was alone on that particular day, but it appeared to know where it was going. The sound it makes as it climbs is the cutest thing we’ve ever heard, and we wonder whether the koala is saying farewell.
