The Perez family of Raymondville, Texas, is battling to reclaim their dog after it was adopted out by the city’s animal control.
Snowflake, who they had rescued from the Texas floods in June, got loose and fled away the week before Thanksgiving. The family looked for hours but came up empty-handed.
He was eventually taken up by the city’s animal control, who adopted him out to another family before allegedly allowing the Perez family to claim him.
Hector Perez, Snowflakes’ father, told KRGV through tears how much his family misses their beloved puppy.
Perez claims that the shelter admitted to making a mistake and informed him that Snowflake’s new adoptive family does not want him back.
Despite his efforts, including consulting with the Raymondville police chief, the Perez family has yet to reclaim Snowflake.
The worst part, according to Perez, is that Snowflake’s new family lives close.
“I can hear him bark if you whistle,” he told KRGV. “He is a member of our family and belongs to us.”
The event is currently being investigated by the city attorney, and Perez is weighing his options. Perez hopes to reunite Snowflake with his family before the holiday season.
