We’ve seen how affection can change a dog’s life, but due to the a shelter volunteer, this canine has changed both inside and out.
On the streets, Clefford’s narrative begins. Clefford’s first family was homeless, according to TheDodo, and unable to provide for his medical needs. When he ate conventional kibble, his cleft palate caused him discomfort, and his family couldn’t afford surgery to correct the problem. They took the difficult decision to surrender Clefford to Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston in the hopes of providing him with a better life.
Clefford remained the same loving dog he had always been, despite many dogs having difficulty adjusting to a shelter environment and acting out. His wide eyes and loving personality won the hearts of shelter employees and volunteers. Clefford drew the attention of one volunteer, Will Stoltenberg. To The Dodo, he says,
“As I went about checking on the dogs, I kept returning to his kennel to touch him and tell him what a nice guy he was.” He always seemed delighted to see me when I dropped by and wore an infectious smile.”
Clefford captivated Will’s heart and house with his contagious smile!
“It came down to adoption in the end.” “I wanted to give him the life he deserved, not months in a kennel.”
After he got Clefford out of the shelter, Will discovered a lot more about him, including the fact that he was terrified of everything!
Will carefully helped Clefford adjust to life outside his shelter kennel, even though the pup was afraid of ladies, vehicles, skateboards, and children. Clefford got the confidence he required to appreciate being outside thanks to Will’s instruction and support.
Will reports that after a year together, Clefford not only enjoys his walks, but now greets everyone he meets! Will has also witnessed Clefford undergo four surgeries to fix his cleft palate, which has resulted in a little hole in the roof of his mouth and a cutely crooked snout!
Will’s care has helped this good pup grow up both inside and out, and Clefford has turned Will into a camera-happy dog dad! Clefford’s Instagram is a great place to keep up with Will and see more photos!
