Dog would not leave this kid with autism…

Mahe follows James Isaac wherever he goes. The autistic 9-year-old from Wellington relies on his black labrador to keep him secure and peaceful. James is mute and avoids touching or eye contact with his family. The world can be a complicated place for youngsters with autism. When anything enters an autistic child’s life that will assist them in adding up things, they will want to keep it accessible.

After being diagnosed with seizures, James needed to be admitted to the hospital to have an MRI. The Wellington Children’s Hospital did an incredible thing by allowing Mahe to accompany James to his room during his MRI scan.

Mahe remained faithful as always while keeping James safe, nuzzling the boy’s cheek while he was anesthetized.

Michelle James, James’ mother, said Stuff.co.nz, “He was just watching James and searching really anxious.”

While Mahe proven to be a valuable asset at the hospital, Michelle James claims that the dog has played an equal role in the family since joining them two and a half years ago.

“There is such a connection that happens between a child with autism and the dogs, and so the dogs only calm the youngsters down,” Wendy Isaacs, a trust employee, told Stuff.co.nz. “The children will make eye contact with the dog but not with their parents or siblings.”
