Indie, the adorable puppy, was abandoned at a shelter in Immokalee, Florida in July. His nose and upper lip were completely gone, and his snout was terribly damaged.

Most people would have given up on him because of his injuries. Fortunately, this sweet puppy was adopted by caring people who recognized that he needed a second shot. Indie was taken to the Gulf Coast Humane Society for treatment, where additional investigation of the wounds led them to suspect he had been used as a bait dog in a dogfighting ring, after which he was shot multiple times and left to die in a field.
Following the public disclosure of his story, contributions flooded in from dog lovers appalled by the harsh treatment this pup had had. Indie’s Facebook page was created, and updates were given with those who had been following his tale for good news.
Indie was sent home with Michelle Rosner from Heritage Institute’s Veterinary Technician Program in Fort Myers after being cured for the horrific scars and infection on his face. “We are so thrilled to have Indie in such a beautiful environment to recover from physical and emotional abuse and neglect,” stated the Gulf Coast Humane Society’s executive director.
