Angel’s scars on her face are apparent, but don’t tell her. In 2015, the lovely Belgian Shepherd was rescued from the Chinese dog meat trade, but only after being mutilated by the dealers.
When campaigners intervened and halted a truckload of dogs on their way to the slaughterhouse, Angel was almost a victim of the horrific process. The equipment used by dog catchers to capture and transport dogs severely injured Angel’s face.
Angel was airlifted to the United Kingdom by Rushton Dog Rescue after surgery was conducted in Beijing. For Hollie Cornes, 25, all it took was one look to know she wanted to adopt Angel. Even though she had operation, she would require additional labor and procedures in order to assist the dog live a happy and healthy life.
“Her nose was entirely shut over with scar tissue, so she wasn’t breathing thru that side of the nose at all,” Cornes said, adding that Angel’s CT showed a 2mm hole on the other side.
She made the decision to do whatever was necessary to allow Angel to breathe while ignoring her appearance. She didn’t want to upset the dog by doing something merely for the sake of appearances. People contributed to a fundraising, and because of their generosity, lovely Angel was able to receive her surgery. Angel, according to Cornes, is doing well these days and living her best life.
We like happy endings and wish Hollie and Angel nothing but the best for a long and happy marriage…
