When you believe dogs couldn’t possibly be more kind and compassionate, they prove time and time again that they have the purest hearts, particularly when it comes to helping other creatures. They exemplify the phrase “love knows no bounds,” and they certainly deserve all of the love that they give forth.
Dogs are inherently gregarious animals who are continually looking for the next human or nonhuman connection, and they are generally welcoming of other animals, even those who are substantially different from their own species. They thrive on interaction and will go to great lengths to avoid being alone.
Even though they don’t seem identical, some dogs, as compassionate as they are, won’t pass up the opportunity to watch out for other animals and serve as a father to them. They are constantly looking for ways to bring love and comfort to others who are less fortunate than themselves, and we admire them for doing so in this world.
With that said, a very kind white German Shepherd has once again demonstrated this by adopting and caring for an orphaned possum that lost its mom in a vehicle accident. Take a look at their tale below!
After his mother died in a horrible vehicle accident, this small baby opposum was left orphaned.
We all know how difficult and nearly impossible it is for any infant animal to live in the wild without a parent. Fortunately, this little creature was discovered at the appropriate time and given the opportunity to resume his life.
Poncho was the name given to the infant opposum by the rescue crew who discovered him.
On the side of the road, they spotted the sad creature climbing on its deceased mother. He made it, but it felt like his odds of survival were dwindling by the minute.
The team didn’t abandon him, and he was taken to the Rare Species Fund in South Carolina.
Poncho was the name given to the infant opposum by the rescue crew who discovered him.
Poncho encountered the loveliest creature he would ever meet the moment he arrived at the rescue sanctuary—a dog named Hantu who became his mother almost instantly.
Possums are known to spend the first several months of their existence connected to their moms’ backs, so when the Rare Species Fund observed the white dog carrying the opossum on her back, their hearts softened.
“They play significant roles in each other’s life.” “When Hantu goes on her daily hikes through the woods, she won’t leave the house unless Poncho is safely mounted on her back,” said Robert Johnson, a Rare Species Fund staff member.
Another life was saved as a result of the lovely link that Hantu and Poncho created, and their relationship is undoubtedly one of the most heartwarming you will ever hear. Hantu treats Poncho as if he were her own son, and Poncho treats Hantu as if she were her own mother, is a wonderful illustration of how kind and nonjudgmental animals can be.
