She went out for a grocery run and returned home to find her healthy dog stiff…

As responsible dog owners, we understand that keeping our pets safe comes first. Because they are unable to care for themselves, their health, happiness, and well-being are all in our hands. We must be aware of what hidden threats may affect our pets, just as we must baby-proof our houses for kids.

We attempt to employ common sense, but even common sense couldn’t save lives in this case.

“My daughter Traci’s beloved dog Wasabi was killed by this…it was a pork rind bag.” She had gone to pick up something at a friend’s house and had only been gone for ten minutes when her roommate called. He discovered her with the sack still on her head near the entrance door. HAD SHE KNOWN……it had never occurred to her that something like this could occur. We had no idea!!!! Please help by spreading the news. Cut everything up, including chip bags, zip-lock bags with leftover food, treat bags, and yogurt containers, especially the YoPlait!!! Leave them out of the reach of puppies and cats. Our hearts continue to be broken. “I appreciate it.”

According to WUSA 9, another dog named Menja was also victimized by a snack bag. His mother, Shira Reese, spoke with the news organization about the day she discovered her dog dead:

Shira told WUSA 9, “I rushed downstairs and discovered him lifeless with a Goldfish bag around his neck.” “He was stiff at that time.”

“He had knocked over lamps and tables and stuff like that before he ultimately perished,” Bonnie Harlan, another dog owner, remembered. It was a dreadful route to take.”

Debbie Smith, a third dog owner, described her worst day ever: “[He] was starting to swell and stuff.” It was simply intolerable. For ten years, he was my life. For days and weeks, I cried like a baby.”

The four dogs were only following their natural instincts: hunger.

They died as a result of their hunger.

Any dog could be in danger. It makes no difference how highly trained they are or how large or small they are. Something like this is rarely considered a death trap by dog owners, but it is…

Our best recommendation:

ALL snack bags should be kept behind a lockable door. Another sensible choice is to purchase pantry-friendly sealable containers. This will also prolong the freshness of your snacks and save you money in the long run.

Our dogs, like our human children, rely on us to keep them safe. Please be cautious. Their lives are on the line. Please forward this to all dog owners. This secret threat must not be overlooked!
