Even animals need excellent companions, and this young kangaroo is no exception.
On Tuesday, Tim Beshara, a legislative assistant for Tasmanian Greens lawmaker Peter Whish-Wilson, tweeted this adorable picture of a baby orphaned kangaroo cuddling a teddy bear.
Gillian Abbott, Beshara’s mother, is taking care of the eastern grey kangaroo known as “Doodlebug” in the Australian Northern Rivers.
According to Beshara, “He might have fallen out of his mother’s bag, or his mother might have passed dead.”
He was a few months old when he was given to my mother’s wildlife organization, WIRES.
Since then, she has actually nursed it back to health, and as the picture shows, it is now leaping around the forest and even coming back for the occasional feeding or cuddling.
The teddy bear is being held up for the kangaroo to see by a cable that is connected to it.
They seem to react to the toys much as a child would. They regard it as a friend.
